Job description: Glassblower/technician

Xa-Quixe

Is a 380 m2 facility located in Oaxaca, Mexico that has been operating since 2002. Our equipment includes; three furnaces, three gloryholes, three large front-loading annealers, two fusers, a flat shop and a small coldworking area.

Xa-Quixe produces high quality glass art, custom made designs for anything from bottles for local mezcal producers to architectural pieces and has it’s own line of products which are on display in a gallery in the city centre.

Xa-Quixe is a socially aware and ecologically sustainable studio, working with recycled glass and providing employment with opportunities and training to people in local rural communities. Xa-Quixe aims to increase environmental awareness, teach glass techniques and appreciation to expand the knowledge and status of glass art in Mexico.

Xa-Quixe has a talented team of 5 working in the production of glass headed by Christian Thornton a glass artist with over 20 years of experience. The studio has a team of 2 working full time in the office.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for an experienced glassblower to add to our team:

Essential:
At least 2 years experience in studios
Who can produce quality glass pieces ranging from small decorative pieces, bottles and lamps to assisting in large art pieces
Good production skills
Knowledge of equipment (eclipse combustion, GB4, etc.)
Someone who is creative, has design ideas
Someone who is willing to work in a team and share their experience
Interested in different cultures, wanting to experience a new environment, culture and language
Dedicated to the drive towards more responsible and sustainable studios

Desirable:
Experience in other glass techniques (i.e. glass fusing)
Can speak some Spanish
Has experience working as a glass technician
