Originally from Berlin, Germany, Gandalf Gavan is a mixed media artist who lives and works in New York City.
Receiving his MFA from Columbia University in 2005, Gavan teaches printmaking and sculpture at the institution.
He has exhibited his work internationally, from Caracas to Geneva to Barcelona.
Highlights include his Infinite Affinities solo show at the MOMA’s PS 1 Center for Art
as well as a solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Oaxaca (MACO).
Collaborations with Studio Xaquixe
In 2003, Gavan presented his work “Icaro”
as a part of the El Museo Sale a la Calle project in Oaxaca, Mexico.
He suspended 3,750 organically shaped, silver blown-glass spheres
above the cobblestone pedestrian walkway
outside the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Oaxaca (MACO).
