Studio Xaquixe offers courses every month in different art glass techniques. Please contact us for more information.
Kiln-Casting
The kiln-casting course is for those who want to learn how to create solid glass sculptures using molds. This technique involves making a mold in which cold glass is inserted, the mold is then put into an oven that heats up the glass to melt it, then cools it down.
On completion of the course the student will be able to:
1. Make molds for solid glass sculptures
2. Design pieces knowing what types of forms are possible this technique
3. Understand the timing and temperatures necessary for both heating and cooling the sculpture in the oven
Glass Fusing – level 1
The kiln forming course is for those who want to learn the techniques of fusing and forming glass making flat or shallow three-dimensional forms and have little or no experience of working with this material (flat glass) and technique.
On completion of the course the student will be able to:
1. Cut flat glass and create flat pieces with two or three layers
2. Produce simple designs and drawings in glass
3. Use fiber molds to create depth and texture in the pieces
4. Understand the programming basics (timing and temperatures) to fuse and form glass
Glassblowing - level 1
The glassblowing course is for those who want to learn how to create three-dimensional forms in glass and have little or no experience working with this material (melted glass) and technique.
On completion of the course the student will be able to:
1. Blow basic forms such as spheres, cylinders and small bowls
2. Design pieces knowing what types of forms are possible with this technique
3. Understand the important aspects (timing and temperatures) of annealing process.

Sand Casting
The sand casting course is for those who would like to learn how to make glass sculptures by pouring melted glass into a mold made in sand, using textures and colors to make a solid form.
1. Explore the possibilities and limitations of sand casting.
2. Learn how to work with the different materials involved: glass and sand, such as how to use the tools and the equipment to make the mold and to manipulate the piece itself.
3. Understand the logic of how glass behaves in this technique and on that basis make decisions about thickness, shapes, colors etc.
4. Learn about the application and compatibility of materials other than glass to explore possibilities of forms.
5. Understand the important aspects (timing and temperatures) of programming the oven to achieve the effect you are looking for.
Painting on glass
The painting on glass course is for artists or craftspeople that would like to learn how to capture their creations in glass, taking advantage of its’ particular characteristics such as transparency. Working with colors, combining with other materials and cooking cycles.
1. Explore the possibilities and limitations of this technique.
2. Learn about the paints, techniques, equipment and tools used for creating different effects such as shading and texture.
3. Discover what other materials you can use in this technique
4. Understand the important aspects (timing and temperatures) of programming the oven to achieve the effect you are looking for.
